Trick-or-Treating in Downtown Miami

October 29, 2012 by MelanieDawn 1 Comment

My daughter, Kristina, is 23 years old now – long past the age of trick-or-treating (I think!). While she was growing up in West Kendall, we did the annual ritual door to door at all of the neighborhood houses; but this year I wondered where do the children trick-or-treat downtown? Most of our high-rise buildings are secure. Unless the children live in the building, they won’t be able to knock on doors here.

So in addition to the October family-friendly Halloween events included in my previous posts, “Miami Knows How to Throw a Halloween Party”  and “More Fabulous Ways to Celebrate Halloween Miami Style”, here are five fabulous places to take your children trick-or-treating in their costumes this Wednesday evening:

Bayside Marketplace, 401 Biscayne Blvd., Miami
Time: 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

“Join us for a fun Halloween event! Trick or Treating throughout the Center; Live Music at the Marina Stage; Entertainment from our Colorful Cast of Street Performers; Fun and Prizes! See you at Bayside for a monster good time!”

CocoWalk Family Halloween Party, 3015 Grand Avenue, Coconut Grove
Time: 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm

“Head to Coconut Grove’s CocoWalk for an entire day of free festivities. From 2pm to 6pm, kids can enjoy collecting trick-or-treat candy, participating in costume contests and other feature entertainment, including an up-close magician, tattoo and balloon artists and dancing away to spooky dance music! Head to the photo-booth from 4pm to 6 pm to take instant fun photos, which can be shared with friends and online. From 6pm to 11pm, listen away as the DJ plays top tunes and Latin music. But the party doesn’t stop. At 11pm, DJ George Jett of 360 MIX returns with the best party house & techno music as you dance the night away until 3am.”

Halloween Party @ Play-In, 2501 NW 2 Ave, Midtown Miami
Time: 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

“Bring your kids down to Play-In for a Halloween Party!  Costume parade, spooky storytelling, candy extravaganza and Halloween Arts & Crafts all included.  Just $10 per child.” http://www.play-inmiami.com/

Coconut Grove Community Fall Thing, 2805 SW 32nd Ave., Miami
Time: 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm

“This is a safe fun Halloween alternative for families in the Coconut Grove and Gables area. It’s a Free Event for the whole Family! In celebration of Fall, Mosaic Miami church will be hosting the Coconut Grove Community Fall Thing. There will be slides, a rock wall, face painting, balloons, costume contests, candy, candy, candy, and much more, oh yea did we say Food Trucks! Family, Food and Fun. Dress up the kids and make plans to attend.”

Nightmare At 405 Haunted House, 405 University Drive, Coral Gables
Time: 6:30 pm – 10:00 pm

“The city of Coral Gables is hosting a scary haunted house on October 31. The Nightmare at 405 Haunted House ranks four on the scary meter since it is only suitable for children ages five and up. This makes it a great place to give kids their first scare but it’s recommended for the less timid child. If your child is afraid to sleep in the dark, then this is not the haunted house for you.” www.coralgables.com

P.S. Ghosts of Miami City Cemetery Night Walking Tour, was postponed to November 2nd from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm at 1800 NE 2nd Ave

“The ghost of Julia Tuttle might be encountered as Dr. Paul George lurks in the dark through Miami’s oldest cemetery. Visit the final resting place of Miamians, both famous and infamous. Bring a flashlight. Optional Halloween costume.”
