Last week, Swire Properties and Bal Harbour Shops announced that they will co-develop the retail component of Brickell CityCentre.

The multi-level retail area will comprise approximately 500,000 square feet of the total 2.9 million square foot project, and will dedicate about 40% of that to luxury goods. Outdoor portions of the retail center will be covered by a unique “Climate Ribbon”. The 1,000-foot-long glass and steel canopy is engineered to channel breezes from Biscayne Bay down into the center, while admitting natural light and shielding shoppers from Miami’s seasonal rains.
The US $1.05 billion Brickell CityCentre project broke ground in 2012. It will include a shopping center, two residential towers, a hotel, wellness center, serviced apartments, two office buildings, and 3,100 parking spaces. The project is being developed in two phases, with the first phase, including all elements except for one office tower, scheduled for completion in 2015, followed by the final office tower in 2018.
