Today’s Puppy Brunch in downtown Miami was a barkalicious success! Hundreds of dogs brought their humans down to the Biscayne Green on Biscayne Boulevard for an afternoon of fun, food, and frisbee tossing. We finally had a touch of cool weather, so the furry attendees were able to show off their sweaters, too.
The Puppy Brunch is one of the many events being hosted by the Miami Downtown Development Authority as part of their demonstration park during the month of January.
Designed as an ‘urban intervention,’ the Biscayne Green demonstration project will repurpose a segment of Downtown’s signature thoroughfare, transforming surface parking lots into public open space with the hopes to engage the Downtown community and invite them to experience the Boulevard in a different way, bringing activity to city streets at a time when pedestrian-friendly solutions are so desperately needed.
Spanning 20 days and featuring various events weekly, Biscayne Green will have something for everyone. But while it’s designed to entertain, it will also help reveal what can be achieved when people get out of their cars and onto the street.
While this demonstration park will be temporary, the ultimate vision is to transform Biscayne Boulevard from SE Second Street to NE Fifth Street into a pedestrian (and pet) friendly green space that will be a destination location in it’s own right, but also help connect Bayfront Park and Bayside Marketplace to the rest of the Central Business District.
