Paris has their Champs-Élysées. Barcelona has Las Ramblas. And now, Miami’s own Biscayne Green is one step closer to becoming a reality. Starting Friday, January 6, through January 26, the Biscayne Green pop-up park.
Designed as an ‘urban intervention,’ the Biscayne Green demonstration project will repurpose a segment of Downtown’s signature thoroughfare, transforming surface parking lots into public open space with the hopes to engage the Downtown community and invite them to experience the Boulevard in a different way, bringing activity to city streets at a time when pedestrian-friendly solutions are so desperately needed.
Spanning 20 days and featuring various events weekly, Biscayne Green will have something for everyone. But while it’s designed to entertain, it will also help reveal what can be achieved when people get out of their cars and onto the street.
While this demonstration park will be temporary, the ultimate vision is to transform Biscayne Boulevard from SE Second Street to NE Fifth Street into a pedestrian (and pet) friendly green space that will be a destination location in it’s own right, but also help connect Bayfront Park and Bayside Marketplace to the rest of the Central Business District; including historic Flagler Street which is undergoing it’s own renewal to a pedestrian-centric shopping thoroughfare. Biscayne Green’s design would also make it easier for people to cross Biscayne Boulevard.
The grand opening of the Biscayne Green demonstration project will take place on Friday, January 6, from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Biscayne Boulevard will come alive to the sounds of local musical powerhouses like Elastic Bond, Cortadito, and an epic headlining set by Locos Por Juana. Peruse the stalls of dozens of local artisanal vendors and eateries like Coyo Taco, Box of Chacos, The Lobsta Guy, DoggyStyle Miami Hot Dogs, and Lulu’s Ice Cream, enjoy live art, plus handcrafted cocktails by Mac’s Pubs.
Artisan pop-up shops will include Pérez Art Museum Miami, Adoration, ABA Jewels, Tipsy Gardener, Zoom Bloomz, Kat Cuervo, Curandera Remedies, La Succulenta, Sakura Soap Co., VASE, The THX Co., French75Vintage, Jewelry Creations Workshop.
